How can archives and Indigenous peoples work together, in partnership, to shed light on the past, challenge orthodoxies and create a truly inclusive future? This ground-breaking international Summit will bring international, national and local perspectives to the challenges and opportunities inherent in decolonising archives globally. Led by the ICA’s new Indigenous Matters Expert Group, the Summit will bring together first nations people, archivists, record-keepers, librarians, curators and community organisations to:
>> identify key issues faced by Indigenous peoples and archives as they seek to work together in regions around the world
>> examine options to develop a proactive international agenda for preserving Indigenous language and oral history
>> explore the vital role of archives in supporting truth-telling and reconciliation
>> consider approaches to redesigning archives to support decolonisation, led by Indigenous people.
At its conclusion, the Summit will deliver a framework - the Adelaide Statement - to guide the ICA and its members to see, hear and walk with Indigenous peoples to challenge and decolonise the archive.
